Windows 10 preview pushes Command Prompt into the shadows, Paint 3D into the spotlight - williamshaind2001

Hints of what's to place next spring's Windows 10 Creators Update antimonopoly keep on coming. Microsoft recently released Windows 10 Insider Prevue build 14971, which integrates Blusher 3D, turns your browser into an e-lector, shuffles Program line Motivate into the shadows, and more.

First upfield: Margin-as-e-reader. Starting with build 14971, Microsoft says Edge will constitute able to display any unprotected ebook in the epub format. That's not a hugely exciting add-on for PC users (though they can use it), but for anyone with a Windows 10 tablet information technology means one less app you have to download.

Edge actually offers all the basic features you'd want in an ebook reader, including three themes (dark, light, and sepia), the power to bookmark pages, a navigable table of contents, hunting, and a seek banish at the bottom of the browser. Since this is Edge, it also features Cortana integration, allowing you to summon the definition for specific words.

In habitus 14971, Edge can coarse epub files.

The impact on you at home: In my abbreviated look at Edge, this is in spades a work in get on. I tried and true out the new feature in a virtual machine using an unprotected copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The version of the epub file wasn't great until I rearranged the windowpane size into something a trifle more "tablet-y." Carrying into action was also a minute laggard, but I'd chalk that up to the virtual motorcar.

Paint 3D

There's no longer any need to download Paint 3D from the Windows Store. It's like a sho included with every Windows Insider build from 14971 and up. In fact, the old Paint appears to be completely gone—sometimes Microsoft will obscure old system features. If you navigate toC:WindowsSystem32mspaint.exe and click it, Paint 3D shows up—not the classic Paint application. If you forefront to Start > Windows Accessories > Rouge it also opens Blusher 3D instead of the original.

PowerShell instead of the Compel Prompt

It's all PowerShell in the power user Kickoff context menu in build 14971.

Tap Windows significant + X or right-click the Start push in build 14971 you'll go steady there's no longer an option for the good old Command Expeditious. Instead, it's been replaced by options to open PowerShell. The Command Prompt isn't gone by hook or by crook; information technology's just existence de-emphasized. You'll also see PowerShell rather of the Command Prompt in Indian file Explorer when you right-click on whitespace to call off finished the context menu.

If you're non ready to switch to PowerShell, you can stock-still do things the tralatitious way aside going to Start > Settings > Personalization > Taskbar. There, turn out the slider labeled, "Replace Prompt with Windows PowerShell in the menu when I right-click the Start button or press Windows key+X." (Whew, that's a mouthful.)

PowerShell is taking precedence over the Command Prompt just as the utility celebrates its 10-year day of remembrance this week.

Equally with any Windows 10 Insider build there are as wel a number of smaller changes and improvements. The Mindset Mail Windows Put in app now supports OAuth for Yahoo Mail. Microsoft successful some changes to the Capture Office (Beta) app to make it more of, fountainhead, an app. Instead of a bunch of links and videos, you can use it to entree to your Office account, files rescued in OneDrive, and other features for Office 365 subscribers.

Microsoft also killed Edge's snooze tab boast, which was introduced in preview build 14926. The trial run feature allow you set a Cortana monitor to look at a tab again aft a countersink time period. "Settled on data we gathered and feedback we received, we decided to remove IT from the product and re-measure the feature for a time to come release," Microsoft said.
